What is Toon Clock software for Windows computers?

  • Desktop Analog clock with resizable custom shapes

How do I get free Toon Clock software on my Win 98/NT/2000/XP 32 bit computer?

If you haven't already downloaded it, click here to download the free Toon Clock software. Remember where you save it on your hard drive. To install, double-click the file toonclock_setup.exe that you copied to your hard drive and it will install.


How do I get additional skins for Toon Clock?

In addition to the assortment of clock cases, dials, and cartoon characters that come with Toon Clock, even more can be found online at our website. To download additional images that can be used with Toon Clock, RIGHT-click on the clock to display pop-up menu, and select Download Skins. This will start your computer's default internet browser and direct it to the Toon Clocks download page of deluxe "buy-it" collections at www.toonclocks.com/skins.html. Or download single FREE skins from our FREE page.


How do I install the downloaded skins?

After downloading skins, either a purchased collection or freebies -- and saving them to your hard drive. After downloading, doubleclick on the skins file colorhands_setup.exe OR spacedials_setup.exe OR politicaltoon1_setup.exe and follow installation instructions. -- a few additional steps are required in order to make them available for display:

  • Select Install Skins from the pop-up menu. A dialog showing available skin files will appear.
  • Click on the downloaded skin file that you would like to install. To select more than one skin file, hold down the Ctrl key while making your selections.
  • Click on the Install button and Toon Clock will add any skins that were not previously installed.

How do I select skins that are already installed?

Right-click on the clock to display pop-up menu, and select Select Skin. This will open the "Select Skin" dialog window.

Click on one of the tabs on the left side to selct which skin category (Clock, Dial, Hands, Head, Body) you would like to change.

Use the arrow buttons under the image to browse through the available images.

Click on the Apply button to change the Toon Clock skin to use the current image.

If you want to remove an image from the skin database, click on the Remove button. Note: Any skins that have been removed will not be available later, unless the skin is reinstalled.

Click on the Close button to close the Select Skin dialog window.


How do I adjust the date and time of Toon Clock?

Method 1 - Right-click on the clock to display pop-up menu, and select Adjust Date/Time to open Adjust Date/Time dialog.

Method 2 - Internet Time Synchronization.

You can use this feature to synchronize your computer clock with an Internet time server. Synchronization can only occur if your computer is connected to the Internet. If synchronization fails, try again later, or select a different time server. Clock synchronization can also fail if your computer date is incorrect.

If synchronization was blocked by a firewall, you might not be able to use Internet time synchronization and can use the first method to manually adjust the time/date on your computer. Check your firewall documentation for information about unblocking network time protocol (NTP).


How do I view, set, or remove alarms?

Right-click on the clock to display pop-up menu, and select Alarms. This will open the "Alarms" dialog window, which displays a list of any current alarms .

The arrow buttons can be used to browse through the list. To remove an alarm, select it from the list by browsing to it or clicking on the row and then click the Remove button.

To set up a new alarm, click the New button. This will start up an Alarm Wizard, which will take you through steps to select time, date, your choice of sound effects and pop-up memos.

To change the setting of an existing alarm, select it from the list by browsing to it or clicking on the row and then click the Edit button. This will open the Alarm Wizard and you can change the settings for the selected alarm.

If Toon Clock is running on the Windows desktop, the alarm will be activated when the date and time match your computer's system clock. The sound effect, if selected will be played and a window showing the alarm time, subject and memo will appear. If the sound effect was set for looping, it will continue to play until you close the alarm window.

Important Notes

In order for the alarm feature to work properly:

  • Toon Clock must be active. If the Toon Clock application is closed, no alarms will be activated.
  • In order to hear an alarm sound effect, you computer must have a Windows compatible sound card, speakers, and the volume level must be loud enough to hear.
  • Your system clock must be set for the correct time and date.
  • If your computer's Power Options are set to place your computer in Standby mode after a period of inactivity, the alarms may not activate.
  • Active screen savers may also interfere with alarms.

To REMOVE ALARMS, right-click on the clock to display pop-up menu, and select Alarm > View/Remove Alarms. This will open the "Remove Alarms" dialog window, which displays a list of current alarms . The arrow buttons can be used to browse through the list. To remove an alarm, select it from the list by browsing to it or clicking on the row and then click the remove button.

How do I add more alarm sound effects?

Several alarms sounds are included with Toon Clock. You can add more by copying additional sound files to the Sound folder (The default location on your hard drive is c:\Program Files\Toon Clocks\Sound). Alarm sound effects can be .WAV, .MID or .MP3 files.


How do I turn on chimes and/or set it for quiet time?

On the hour, Toon clock can either announce the time (Voice) or play chimes. The voice announcement can be either "12-Hour" (ie: "The time is one o'clock PM") or "Military" (ie: "Thirteen-hundred hours"). Chimes can either simulate a cuckoo clock or bells.

If you do not want the chimes to sound during certain hours (while you are trying to sleep for example), check the Quiet Time box and set the starting and ending times for this "quiet" period.

In order for the chimes feature to work properly:

  • Toon Clock must be active. If the Toon Clock application is closed, chimes will be activated.
  • In order to hear chimes, you computer must have a Windows compatible sound card, speakers, and the volume level must be loud enough to hear.
  • Your system clock must be set for the correct time and date.
  • If your computer's Power Options are set to place your computer in Standby mode after a period of inactivity, the chimes may not activate.
  • Active screen savers may also interfere with chimes.
  • Quiet times are inclusive. If the ending time is 7 AM, the chimes will not restart until 8AM
  • Quiet time does not affect alarms.

How do I move Toon Clock around on my desktop?

If you want to move the clock, position the mouse over the clock and drag it to a new location while holding down the left mouse button.


How do I change the display options?

Right-click on the Toon Clock to display pop-up menu, and select Display Options

Use the left mouse button to drag the sliders left or right to adjust the color of the clock casing.

Use the left mouse button to drag the Max. slider left or right to set the maximum level of transparency that Toon Clock will fade.

Use the left mouse button to drag the Speed slider left or right to set the rate that the Toon Clock will fade when the mouse cursor is not positioned over the clock.

If the Fade Enabled box is checked, Toon Clock will fade and become translucent whenever the mouse cursor is not over the clock. If not checked, Toon Clock will remain opaque (solid) at all times.

Some clocks feature a simple animation during the hourly chimes. To disable any animations, uncheck the Enable Animation box.


How do I get to the popup menu?

To display the pop-up menu RIGHT-click on any part of the clock face. The pop-up menu allows you to change the clock display settings, cartoon characters, set alarms, and hourly chime options.


How do I resize the clock?

To resize the clock, RIGHT-click on the clock to display the pop-up menu, select Resize and then click one of the four available sizes:

  • 25%
  • 50%
  • 75%
  • 100%
